Hey Pardner' - I hope you enjoy my
video!
Thanks for Watching.
The story of how this song came to be.
For years I've explored the back country with
my fellow desert rats. One year Dave Heffner,
(Mr. Death Valley), was leading a
4x4 tour for the Death Valley '49ers Encampment, and I
was his 'tail gunner'.
For those who don't know, I'll explain the
duties of a 'tail gunner' as it applies to a 4x4 expedition into the outback
of Death Valley.
The duties of the 'tail gunner' are to stay in
constant communication with the leader of the expedition while
rounding up strays at the back of the pack and letting our illustrious leader
know that all of his 'Ducks Are In A Row'. This means that everyone has
made the same turns and maneuvers that he has made and no one has
misplaced themselves.
SO, as you can tell the 'tail gunner' not only
gets to keep the herd together, but also finds himself enclosed
in a cloud of dust for most of the run.
On this particular run we had 54 vehicles so
the dirt roads were exceptionally well endowed with mother natures fine
particulate matter, (dust).
Words started forming in my brain pan so I had
my wife write down what was coming forth. After the run was over
and I had time to read what was wrote, I decided to take out all the
swear words and turn it into a love song instead.

Dirt Road Boogie written & performed by Danny Ray Thomas
Verse 1 GbDown a
dusty dirt road is where she calls home. She lives out in the sticks, where the
red neck Gb7
roams. When C
I go out to see her in my truck shinin' bright. Well it'll Gb
have a coat of dust on it when I get home to-Gb7-night.
From doin' that C
dirt road boogie, A doin' that Gb dirt
road boogie, Well she'd Db
rather travel gravel than C
asphalt any ol' time. Gb
Verse 2
Yea! When Gb
I go out to see her down that pot-holed road.
My truck 'll do that bump & grind that she loves Gb7
so.
Ya' know she C
never powders her face like some women I know.
Well just a Gb
light coat of road dust keeps that shine off her Gb7 nose.
She does that C
dirt road boogie, she does that Gb dirt
road boogie,
Well she'd Db
rather travel gravel than C
asphalt any ol' time. Gb
Verse 3
Well I Gb
told her that I'd love her with all 'a my might.
If she'd do me the honor 'a becomin' my Gb7
wife. C
Asked her if she'd love me the rest 'a my life.
She said, Gb
“ stay off that asphalt and I just Gb7
might”,
Do that C
dirt road boogie, 'A do that Gb dirt
road boogie,
Well I'd Db
rather travel gravel with C
you boy any ol' time. Gb
Verse 4
Now that Gb
we've been married twenty years or so.
'A just a livin' out here on this ol' dirt Gb7
road.
C Watchin' dust shinin' through
the sun's mornin' glow.
Gb Young'ens makin' mud pies by
the side of that Gb7 road.
They're doin' that C
dirt road boogie, they're doin' that Gb dirt
road boogie,
Well they'd Db
rather travel gravel than C
asphalt any ol' time. Gb
Verse 5
When Gb
I get weary draggin' 'round these old bones.
No place I'd rather be buried than aside that dirt Gb7
road.
Oh when those C
pearly gates a-open receivin' my soul.
Well I Gb
hope that I'm a walkin' that golden dirt Gb7
road.
A doin' that C
dirt road boogie, A doin' that Gb dirt
road boogie,
Well I'd Db
rather travel gravel than C
asphalt any ol' time. Gb
Play
C
dirt road boogie, Gb dirt road
boogie,
Well he'd Db
rather travel gravel than C asphalt any
ol' time. Gb
Well I'd
Db rather travel gravel than C
asphalt any ol' time. Gb
Well I'd
Db rather travel gravel than C
asphalt any ol' time. Gb
